Hello and welcome to the website of harpist and composer Eleanor Turner and her tabla and harp duo, Tāla Tarang!
Eleanor Turner is a renowned harpist whose mastery of the instrument has captivated audiences worldwide. Winning the European Harp Competition in 2007 sparked an international career of solo recitals, chamber music and concertos where she has garnered acclaim for her profound musicality and dynamic stage presence.
Eleanor's career is studded with notable achievements such as a Wingate Scholarship and Second Prize in the Gaudeamus Interpreters Contest (contemporary music) in Amsterdam 2011, where her ability to blend rhythmic precision with passionate expression set her apart from over 100 musicians on a world stage.
Tāla Tarang (meaning ‘rhythm waves’) is the vibrant and dynamic pairing of tabla maestro Mendi Singh and harp virtuoso Eleanor Turner, an electrifying fusion of rhythmic grooves and intricate melodies. From intimate jazz clubs to outdoor festivals around Europe, Tāla Tarang "creatively weave strands of traditional, contemporary, folk, and classical music into a musical tapestry reflecting world cultures and celebrating humanity” Dr. Bob Ramdhanie MBE of Rupununi Festival (Guyana).
Supported in their creativity by a DYCP grant from The Arts Council in 2022, Tāla Tarang shine especially brightly in their breathtaking improvisations and original compositions. It is here they reveal the trust and special chemistry that have blossomed over the ten years they have written, performed and recorded music together.
